"Forget love... I'd rather fall in chocolate!"                                         Chocolate is better than doughnuts for a HOLE lot of reasons.                                         Teach your kids not to eat chocolate.  You don't need the competition.                                         Celebrate diversity!  Eat white chocolate. Eat milk chocolate. Eat dark chocolate.                                        Never trust anyone who can eat only half of a chocolate bar.                                         No animals were killed to make chocolate.                                         Chocolate is My Life.

Why Blue Frog Chocolates?

* A LEGEND *

Aztec legend holds that chocolate, the “food of the gods,” was hidden from human beings inside cocoa pod beans by the sun god, Nanahuatzin. Mankind owes our knowledge of the divine dish to Xocolati, the god of delight. Xocolati appeared to humans as a blue frog and sang his distinctively delightful song from the bitter waters of the great pond, giving pleasure to the hot tropical nights.

It was Xocolati, legend says, that led humans to open the strange cocoa pods which grew along the banks of the great pond. He then taught them how to extract the secrets of the “food of the gods” from the beans inside, much to the dismay of Nanahuatzin. Eventually, humans learned to create a delightful liquid treat from the cocoa bean and whip it into a frothy drink. Surely, this wondrous drink, now being enjoyed by humans, was intended for gods! The beans themselves became a symbol of prestige and wealth to the people, and were even used as money. To honor the blue frog for revealing this godly secret to humankind, the special substance became known as Xocolati - - chocolate!

Yet, even today, humankind must beware that the wrath of Nanahuatzin persists. For when chocolate is left in the sun god’s view for longer than a few moments, he reminds us of his anger with Xocolati and melts his revenge on the blue frog’s namesake!

Frommer's Review

If you've noticed our chocolate bias, you know how happy we are at this store, which has the finest chocolate and candy collection in the city. Just for starters is Belgium liquor-filled chocolate; Michel Cluizel fresh butter creams from France; Joseph Schmidt's (often referred to as the "Nipples of Venus"), which are plump and dense; Jordan almonds (good ones are difficult to find); Dulce De Leche (Argentina) served over ice cream -- or as Ann Streiffer, owner with husband Rick, suggested, "Eat it with a spoon from the jar." If you are looking for the quintessential New Orleans favor, see the doubloons, alligators, and Mardi Gras golden-wrapped delights. We could go on about the 21 different colors of M&Ms or the chocolate film for your camera, but we'll stop and let you experience it when you arrive.

“I received the package early this afternoon. Thank you so much for going out of your way at the last minute to get it to me today. I will keep you in mind as I think these [Italian confetti] candy flowers are great gifts for people who need nothing in the later years in life. We are at the age where we are getting invitations to 50th wedding anniversaries and older birthdays. Hopefully one of these days I will get back to New Orleans and be able to stop in your shop again. In the mean time wishing you continued success and many blessings. Thanks Again”

It would be hard to describe how this chocolate treat would spoil you for all others. It is not chocolate in the sense of a chocolate bar, but chocolate in the sense of the chocolate you would find at the heart of the best chocolate truffle you have ever tasted, and instead of a chocolate shell which would only detract from this rich flavor, it is dusted with cocoa powder. I once made some chocolate cupcakes, which I dropped three of these into the batter and blended them in. They were the best chocolate cupcakes I ever tasted. This product can be eaten alone, or added to your favorite recipe to only make it better. They make a wonderful gift for the true chocolate lover. I never had anything else like them.

On my way back from National Art & Hobby on Magazine,
I decided to look into Blue Frog Chocolates. I expected
a little shop that did custom chocolate pouring, but I was
waaaaaay wrong. A craving for dark chocolate covered marzipan
made me walk in the door to kaleidescope of colors.

Every candy you could think of! There are even items for less
than 50 cents. Designer candies, old tyme candies, pretty ones,
funny ones, sugar-free ones. I walked home with 4 dark choc covered
marzipans, 1/2 lb chocolate rum cordials and 2 dark chocolate covered
apricots. Once upon a time you could only find the apricots at
the Maison Blanche candy counter. I oohed, ahhed and exclaimed around
the place for about 30 minutes (so much to see). And they have lots of
"not chocolate" goodies.

Of course they do customized stuff (including chocolate coins/doubloons)
and gift baskets. Even if you're making your own gift baskets but want
to include items that are quirky and tasty, Blue Frog is the place to
go. A bag of green M&Ms? Another color? Body frosting and chocolate
edible soap (heh heh). Accents for a birthday party or shower?

Y'all MUST check this place out.

And, by the way, the dark chocolate covered marzipan was
in-freakin-credible! (and will be for a few more minutes)

I just wanted to say how beautiful my order is. I ordered the candy flowers. I am very impressed. It is actually more beautiful than on your website (which is nice). I do a lot of shopping on the internet and will certainly pass your name along.
Thank you

Ann,
While in the store earlier I saw the pumpkin and casket chocolates in the glass case. I, of course, had to try one of them. I opted for the pumpkin and I must say it is one of the most unique flavors I've had. Fantastic. You guys really have the best chocolates around.

I came across your site and just love it. I am amazed with the Jelly-bean Elvis. Being a frog and Elvis lover I passed along the site address to friends who love chocolate. I myself do not eat much of it, but it sure looks good.

HI,
My name is Keith and I first visited your store on a Tuesday of 2004 and made a small purchase. I would just like for you to know that the recipants of the chocolates were thrilled to death. "That's the best chocolate in the world, especially the truffles", was on of the quotes passed on to me. I guess I'll be a regular customer from here on. So, if you even dare to change anything about your products; don't. You will only spoil my fine selection for things women adore and the reaction that I receive thereafter. Thanks for reading my message to you and I'll see you soon.

Sincerly,
Keith

Thank you so much for your extraordinary personal service. Our daughter, Jesse, called immediately after picking-up her Valentine's gift bag from your store, and said that yours were the most beautiful chocolates that she has ever received. The next day I received a cell phone photo of her with a perfectly blue tongue, with the caption "yummy" -- hmm, I wonder what she ate. Anyway, thanks again for making it possible for us to share our love with our valentine in such a beautiful and delicious way.

- Betty

p.s. I will absolutely stop in during my next visit to NO.
