All About Blue Frog Chocolates

A Podcast Interview by Craig Kraemer, of NewOrleansPodcasting.com, April 6, 2012:  "Rick Streiffer and his wife, Ann, own Blue Frog Chocolates on Magazine Street in uptown New Orleans. Rick, who is a full-time physician, works part-time at Blue Frog and has become quite an expert on chocolate. In his dual role as doctor and chocolatier, Rick is the perfect person to describe the possible health benefits of chocolate. He explains where chocolate originated and where we get most of our chocolate today. He recounts chocolate's history and gives us a glimpse of how cacao beans are processed before they become the chocolate we all know and love. Finally, Rick gives us a lesson in the best way to eat chocolate - but a true chocolate lover must have extraordinary will power to eat chocolate the way he suggests. Listen here!

Opened 13 years ago Uptown, Blue Frog Chocolates (5707 Magazine St., 504-269-5707; www.bluefrogchocolates.com) made a name for itself on the local culinary scene for its elegant and often witty confections. "...I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the array of drinkable chocolate to be had much farther Uptown at Blue Frog Chocolates. they offer a delicious array of “Icy” hot chocolates like a Zesty Mayan Chocolate topped with their signature Cajun Cayenne Bites and an incredible Praline Caramel that is so buttery and delicious, you’ll find it hard to put down...."

A Very Sweet Blog - Tell Me About The Frogs Kim! (A lifestyle and fashion blog by Kim Alston)

"New Orleans has an excellent locally owned (I really try and support local and small businesses) chocolatier called Blue Frog Chocolates, that specializes in both domestic and international chocolates…..There's nothing that Blue Frog Chocolates doesn't have. They have wonderful Italian Confetti Candy Flowers that are imported from Sulmona, Italy. You can buy one or a bunch! They are truly exquisite."

Rochambeau Blog: "This is a jewel of a shop where you will find something for every chocolate lover on your list, even a Voodoo Queen!"

"If you've noticed our chocolate bias, you know how happy we are at this store, which has the finest chocolate and candy collection in the city. Just for starters is Belgium liquor-filled chocolate; Michel Cluizel fresh butter creams from France; Joseph Schmidt's (often referred to as the "Nipples of Venus"), which are plump and dense; Jordan almonds (good ones are difficult to find); Dulce De Leche (Argentina) served over ice cream -- or as Ann Streiffer, owner with husband Rick, suggested, "Eat it with a spoon from the jar." If you are looking for the quintessential New Orleans favor, see the doubloons, alligators, and Mardi Gras golden-wrapped delights. We could go on about the 21 different colors of M&Ms or the chocolate film for your camera, but we'll stop and let you experience it when you arrive."

Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans - Jan 1, 2005
"One might think that a car plunging through the fence and smashing into the front porch of your business is a major imposition, but in the topsy-turvy world that is New Orleans today... Ann Streiffer, who owns Blue Frog Chocolates a few blocks further uptown, reopened her shop during the last week of October [2005, after Katrina], providing another necessity of life--chocolate.  She's been busy "since day 1."  As one of the first businesses in the area to reopen, Ann says, "people wanted to get out and tell their stories."
